Fireside chat with the New Urban Progress fellows
Metro resilience in the time of COVID-19 and a new US administration
Our project New Urban Progress invited fellows on both sides of the Atlantic to a virtual Fireside Chat in early March. The discussion on "Metro resilience in the times of COVID-19 and a new US administration" started with input from Bruce Katz, who is also a member of New Urban Progress' Sounding Board. Will Marshall of the Progressive Policy Institute moderated the discussion.
The conversation served as an exchange among the fellows on aspects related to New Urban Progress' project goal of revitalizing and reinitiating the transatlantic dialogue on cities as sites of democratic renewal. For example, they compared who has been hit the hardest by COVID-19 - blacks and Latinos in the U.S., women and essential workers in Germany - and discussed options for equitable recovery and distribution of federal stimuli. Another topic was climate change and potentials of networks within cities.
A second Fireside Chat is planned for the fall.
